Who Is Cher Wang?
The Taiwanese Tech Genius credited with the creation of one of the earliest cell phones.
Cher Wang, Taiwanese Tech Billionaire and Chairwoman of HTC, and VIA is one of the wealthiest women in the world. Though she didn't come from humble beginnings, she has come from a stunning legacy. Her father Wang Yung-Ching, now deceased, founded Formosa Plastics Group was the second richest man in all of Taiwan before his passing and employed two of his children.
Cher Wang is far from being the only successful member of the Yung-Ching clan. Her sister, Charlene Wang is a co-founder of First International Computer in 1980 - a company that creates motherboards. Two of her other siblings are still on Formosa's Executive Team.
Though Cher says her family was strict, her father was was a giving man that took Cher on regular visits to a local hospital teaching her the value of philanthropy and charitable giving. Yung-Ching encouraged his daughter to explore the world and travel with her studies that lead her to Oakland California in 1974. After graduating from High School, she went on to study piano as a music major at Berkeley but later decided to study Economics. She earned her Master of Economics and worked with First International Computer in 1982 selling motherboards and managed the personal computer division. The application of her talent was challenged in having to show practical work to clients by carting around massive computer systems through train stations and other transportation.
She dreamed of creating cell phones and is actually credited with creating an early model of smartphones in the year 1997. Cher went on to co-found and chair HTC, and VIA Technologies that develops silicon chip technology for cell phones, and is considered to be the most successful woman in business globally. Her net worth is valued at 1.1 Billion U.S. Dollars. (Via Rachel White).
